What is auricular acupuncture?
Auricular acupuncture is a specialized form of acupuncture that focuses on points located on the ear. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the ear is viewed as a microsystem of the entire body, meaning different areas of the ear correspond to different organs, muscles, and systems. By stimulating specific points on the ear, it is possible to influence the body as a whole.
Very small needles, ear seeds, or tiny press needles may be used depending on the treatment. Ear seeds are often left in place for several days so patients can gently press on the points at home to prolong the effects of the treatment.
Auricular acupuncture is commonly used to support stress and nervous system regulation, pain management, addiction recovery, hormonal balance, digestive issues, and sleep concerns. It can be used on its own or combined with body acupuncture as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
This technique is gentle, relaxing, and can be especially helpful for patients who are sensitive to needling or who benefit from continued stimulation between visits.
